PART 1: The Nutrition Social Media Series Featuring Miranda Galati

Miranda Galati

Have you ever thought about starting a nutrition social media account? Maybe you’ve even created the account, chosen the perfect handle, and then been paralyzed at the thought of creating content. Or perhaps your roadblock is choosing a handle! Are you caught up in your own head thinking that you have to “niche down” or that you don’t know enough yet?! Should you focus on TikTok, Twitter, or Instagram? Do you even want a social media account?

It seems so stressful.

Let me stop you right there. Before you let your imposter syndrome get in the way, take a deep breathe. Pick up your phone, find your podcast app, type in “Dietitians Discovered” and navigate to this episode. Miranda Galati is a social media queen, but it hasn’t always been that way! She spent about a year experimenting with different types of content on her Instagram page to a couple hundred followers until she found her voice and… it struck a chord! Nearly a year later, Miranda shares balanced nutrition information to tens of thousands of people every single day.

Dietetics is Miranda’s second career. Before studying nutrition, she held a high-stress corporate marketing job that kept her busy but didn’t fulfill her desire to help others. Miranda had her own set of experiences with eating and physical symptoms that caused her to seek the care of a Registered Dietitian. Working with the dietitian was quite literally life-changing for Miranda. Not only did she work through her gastrointestinal symptoms and reframe her relationship with food, but she also quit her job and returned to school to become a Registered Dietitian! Now, Miranda is in the final stretch of the Nutrition Communications program at Ryerson and will be a Registered Dietitian by the end of the year.

In this episode, Sarah and Miranda chat about all the reasons why someone might want to start a social media account, how to create a system so you don’t get overwhelmed, and Miranda’s top tips for someone who is just getting started. Sarah and Miranda will continue this conversation over the next two episodes!
