As you start self-reflecting and thinking about your experiences, you’re also checking in with yourself to see what gave you that fulfillment and what is in-line with your goals”
Career Coach Ken Lee
For the final installment of the Application Reflection Series, Sarah is joined by career coach Ken Lee. Ken works at the Ryerson career centre and has assisted countless nutrition students through their application process. He tells Sarah his best advice for current nutrition students facing down their Master and practicum applications, as well as the most common mistakes he sees and how to avoid them.
Ken works with the community services faculty at Ryerson University, and has a particular soft spot for the dietetics students. He mentors these students through their application process and assists in embedding the competencies into their applications and resumes. He believes self-reflection and asking yourself critical questions is an essential part of a successful application, and believes communicating what makes you unique on paper is an excellent primer for future interviews.
Throughout his time as a career coach, Ken has found that many folks discount experience they view as irrelevant. He believes that if you’re asking whether or not you should include something, the answer is always yes, and he discusses how to bring these experiences back to the competencies. The advice Ken shares in this interview is invaluable for anyone who is getting ready to take the next step in their dietetics career or who is in the thick of their application process.
