In this profession, it’s so diverse. There are so many different routes you can take and I love that about it because I have so many opportunities to get excited about my career over and over again.”
Acacia Puddester
Acacia Puddester, a nutrition researcher and communications expert based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, joins Sarah on the podcast this week to discuss her journey and career so far in dietetics. Despite being a recent graduate and a relatively new RD, Acacia already has a wealth of experience in dietetics, which she attributes to her open mind and networking skills.

Acacia was born and raised in a rural town in Newfoundland, and she remained in the province to start her undergrad at Memorial University of Newfoundland. While she didn’t know what she wanted to do when she began her undergrad, Acacia discovered dietetics during an elective summer course in health psychology and found her calling. In order to transfer to Acadia University to complete an undergrad in nutrition and dietetics, Acacia required a recommendation from a professor, which is when she started to learn the importance of networking.
From completing the program at Acadia to completing a Masters of Health Science and Communication at Ryerson, networking would become a common theme throughout Acacia’s career. It was through these connections that she gained non-traditional placements during her Masters program, as well as employment at Acadia University, Nourish Nova Scotia, and Go ED Omega 3 after graduating.
Acacia hopes her incredibly varied career continues in the same vein, offering unique opportunities that allow her to explore both her “artsy fartsy” side and her love of science.
